15 Years Since 1978

Its been 15 rockin years since Detroit Rock City was released (1999), and I wanted to tell you guys that it's  a kickass film. In a shit town like Cleveland, Ohio (sorry if you live there), this film takes place in 1978 where four boys ditch school to see their favorite band, KISS. The whole conflict of the story is them making it to Detroit to find out that they lost the tickets so they separate to find their own way in. It's not only one of my favorite films because of it's music enthusiasm, but also because 1978 was one of the biggest times for rock and roll, disco, and wicked fashion. This movie is  great because it not only focuses on rock but also the disco clique -"Stella's" and "Dick with ears" who like that John Travolta shit.

From disco balls to the colorful dance floor, it was ALL in and these people were expressing their fruity side by wearing lycra and synthetic polyester to heavy sparkly sequims and gold lame. An afro, fur jacket, and hoop earings were all worn by Christine, the "Stella", in the film, and I think it was brilliant combining two completely different fashions in the same era - which brings me to the dirty side of '78. With the "I don't care" attitude comes the loose band t-shirts, denim jeans/jackets and some high top converse, you're set (no shower included.) The whole grim look was very popular during the 70's and to think that is now back is ridiculous but who gives a shit! It's cool!

Saving the best for last, I wanted to get talking about one of the best movie soundtracks ever made. It includes (the best band still alive) KISS (duh), The Runaways, Cheap Trick, David Bowie, and Van Halen! I'd like to say that Boogie Shoes by KC and the Sunshine Band is included in the soundtrack, but sadly it is not; Do ya wanna know why? (crowd says yes) because Disco runs through the soul (crowd laughs). Anyway, If you're looking for a good independent film along with a good soundtrack, here ya go and enjoy! Like Hawk says, "Well as they say in the tampon biz, see you next period."

Rock and Roll,
